Unit War Diaries

The museum collection holds copies of the battalion war diaries for the South Wales Borderers, Welch Regiment and Monmouthshire Regiment for both the First World War and Second World War along with the diary for 1st Battalion Welch Regiment which records its operational tour in Korea 1951-52. Further copies of each of these diaries are also available in the National Archives at Kew.

Within the museum there is a project underway to transcribe these dairies, so that they are searchable and available on-line. Kindly note due to the intense activity and turnover of personnel, private soldiers are rarely mentioned specifically by name in these diaries.

We can send you an extract of any of these diaries, or alternatively diaries can be made available for visitors to Brecon by appointment. Please note that we levy fees for research and for access to the archives. The ‘before you start’ page outlines these charges, or alternatively you can contact us for a quote. We are always pleased to help.
